Refunds & Cancellations

Overview

This policy applies to all services and digital products purchased at KingAuthor – Publishing Consultants, including consultations, manuscript reviews, editing services, design & formatting, publishing support, and packaged services sold via our online store.

Definitions

Order: Any purchase of a KingAuthor package, add-on, consultation, or one-off service.
Deposit/ Retainer: An upfront fee that secures booking and/or pays for initial project work.
Work in progress: Work performed after proposal acceptance and beginning of the service (editing time, design proofs, uploads, etc.).
Delivered Files: Final files provided to the client (PDFs, ePub, mobi, print files, cover art, etc.).

Cancellations

To request a cancellation or refund:
Email info@kingauthorpublishing.com with subject line: “Refund/ Cancellation Request — [Order #]”. Include your order number, full name, and brief reason for the request. Our team will acknowledge your request within 3 business days and advise next steps.

Processing

Typical processing is as follows:

Before work begins (no files delivered/ no consulting delivered): Full refund of amounts paid, minus a $50 administrative fee if the purchase was a package sold via the store. (If you have booked a time-limited consultation or special discount, different terms may apply — see your order confirmation).
After work has begun, but before substantial completion: Refunds are issued on a prorated basis. We calculate the value of completed work (hours spent × agreed hourly or project rate) and refund the remainder.
After final files delivered or final approval given: Purchases for services that resulted in final deliverables (final edited manuscript files, print-ready files, cover art) are non-refundable.
Consultation sessions: Individual consultations may be refundable if canceled at least 24 hours before the scheduled appointment (full refund less any booking fee). Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice are not refunded.

Deposits & Retainers

Unless otherwise stated in your agreement, deposits and retainers are non-refundable to secure scheduling and cover prep work. As a courtesy, unused retainer funds may be credited toward another project if you rebook within 12 months and the change is approved by KingAuthor.

Digital products, Downloads & Immediate Access Items

For digital goods or services that provide immediate access or download (for example: downloadable templates, completed eBook files, or instant digital resources), refunds will not be issued once the item has been downloaded or access has been provided.

Quality Issues & Remediation

Contact info@kingauthorpublishing.com within 14 days of delivery with details of your issue. We will review and where reasonable, offer remediation (corrections, rework, or a partial refund), depending on the issue and the scope of work.

If an acceptable resolution cannot be reached, the issue can be escalated to mediation.

Refund Processing

Approved refunds are processed back to the original payment method within 10 business days. Some banks or payment processors may take longer to post the refund to your account.

International Policy

KingAuthor – Publishing Consultants operates internationally. Certain statutory rights may apply to certain contracts for goods or services supplied at a distance. Where applicable, we will comply with those rights and provide remediation in accordance with international laws.

Where international law differs from this policy, the international law shall apply.

Chargebacks & Disputes

If you open a chargeback with your card issuer before contacting us, we will still review your case. We take chargebacks seriously — if a chargeback is found to be unjustified after review (for example, where the delivered work matches the order and evidence shows delivery), KingAuthor reserves the right to dispute the claim with the payment provider. Repeated or fraudulent chargebacks may result in collection actions or refusal of future service.

Cancellations By KingAuthor

KingAuthor – Publishing Consultants reserves the right to cancel any order for reasons including, but not limited to:
Scheduling conflicts, force majeure, or inability to verify payment and/or discovery of content that violates our Terms and Conditions (illegal content, hate speech, explicit sex-for-sale promotions, etc.).

If we cancel, we will offer a full refund for any unused fees or propose an alternative arrangement.

Special Circumstances & Third-party Costs

Extra costs (ISBN purchases, stock media, paid metadata services, paid distribution fees, or third-party vendor charges) that were paid on your behalf are not refundable once the third-party has been charged. We will always provide receipts and aim to minimize non-recoverable costs.

If KingAuthor must make non-recoverable purchases for a project after you cancel, those amounts may be deducted from any refund.

Policy Changes

KingAuthor – Publishing Consultants reserves the right to update this policy without notice. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when the policy was last revised. Material changes will be posted on our website and, when possible, notified to customers.
